IHPST Election: Open Call for Nominations

 
 
Nominations are invited for a number of positions on the IHPST Council and the IHPST Nominating Committee for 2026-2028.The positions include: President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, Director (2), Teacher Representative, Student Representative and Nominating Committee Member (4).

IHPST members are invited to nominate other members, or themselves, for one of these positions. Each nomination should include the following items:
1) The name of the nominee and for what position
2) A brief statement on what makes the nominee an ideal candidate for this position
3) A brief comment on the nominee's level of involvement with the IHPST Group (e.g., biennial or regional meetings, Science & Education)

Nominations will be accepted until February 1st , 2026

Call for Proposals for Hosting the next IHPST Biennial Conference
in 2028

IHPST Biennial Conferences function as a forum of academics, researchers, PhD students and teachers coming from a variety of disciplines: history of science, philosophy of science, sociology of science and science education.

 

IHPST conferences follow a tradition of almost 40 years in the Americas, Europe and Asia (http://ihpst.net). We are now seeking proposals to host the 2028 IHPST Biennial Conference in the Americas or in regions outside Europe—such as the Global South—where new perspectives and emerging voices can enrich the dialogue. Hosting this event is an exceptional opportunity to create an inspiring environment for exchange among leading scientists and scholars. Following the upcoming 2026 conference organized by Claudia Faria and Ricardo Lopes Coelho at the University of Lisbon, Portugal, the 2028 event will continue to strengthen our global network.

 

We welcome proposals for hosting the next IHPST Biennial Conference from academics and research groups from universities and academic institutions.

18th International History, Philosophy and Science Teaching Conference - IHPST 2026


The IHPST Biennial Conferences follow a tradition of 40 years in North America and Europe (http://ihpst.net). IHPST Conferences function as a forum of academics, researchers, PhD students and teachers coming from a variety of disciplines: history of science, philosophy of science, sociology of science and science education. In 2026 the IHPST Biennal Conference will be organized by Claudia Faria and Ricardo Lopes Coelho, Lisbon University (Institute of Education and Faculty of Science) from the 6th until the 10th of July 2026, in Lisbon, Portugal. Save the date!

2nd European Regional History Philosophy and Science Teaching Conference – IHPST 2025


27 – 29 June 2025 – Athens, Greece

The conference was hosted by the Department of Pedagogy and Primary Education, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, under the theme Scientific Rationalism and Human Emancipation in Science Teaching: Perspectives from History, Philosophy and Sociology of Science. The conference featured two distinguished keynote speakers: Prof. Efthymios Nikolaidis and Prof. Kostas Gavroglu. Over the three days, a total of thirty-four oral presentations were delivered, in a warm and inclusive atmosphere with scholars, educators, and researchers from seven countries: Turkey, Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Armenia, Bahrain, and Greece. The conference had a multidimensional character and cultural richness with the Theatrical Reading Galileo’s Pope, based on Kostas Gavroglu’s play, the visit to the Kotsanas Museum of Ancient Greek Technology, and a historical walk in Athens’ city center.
